Explore Jugiong and Surrounds

Jugiong is a quaint and popular village set on the Murrumbidgee River. Previously a popular and convenient rest stop just off the Hume Hwy, it is now quickly becoming a favourite weekend and short break destination for city travellers. Charming businesses, catering to tourists and locals alike, occupy the centre of the village, including The Long Track Pantry (a warm, welcoming cafe, country food store, homewares and gifts); The Sir George Tavern (Bar, Restaurant, Cafe, Artisan Bakery, Boutique Accommodation, Homewares); Jugiong Motor Inn (Bar, Restaurant for dine in or takeaway, Accommodation); The Jugiong Wine Cellar (show-casing the finest wines from the surrounding wine regions of Hilltops, Gundagai, Canberra and beyond, as well as locally made gifts and crafts); The Quirky Crow (Gallery and Studio offering handmade, original, Australian Art, Ceramics, Jewellery, Glass,  Recycled Timber); and Woodstock Resources (Importers of European Reclaimed Oak and Stone, Antiques).

As an entry point to the Hilltops Region, the area is known for its aesthetic beauty, agricultural production, food, wine, and boutique shopping. Enjoying four distinct seasons, it is an ever-changing and picturesque landscape, with locals offering the best in country hospitality. Jugiong is an easy 1.5 hrs drive from Canberra, and 3.5 hrs from Sydney, and 10 mins drive from Hollycott.

Jugiong is home to some fabulous events including Gather and Graze Artisan and Food/Wine Market; Jugiong Writers Festival; and Jugiong Art Exhibition. Popular local artist, Stephanie Corkhill Hyles offers Fill My Well Workshops for groups of 6-8 women with a focus on well-being and creativity, as well as other art workshops throughout the year, with accommodation available at the property in the Westbourne Huts.

Harden-Murrumburrah is 20 mins drive away where you can explore the twin towns’ gold rush heritage at the Gold Trail Experience museum, or the visit The Light Horse Memorial commemorating the First Australian Light Horse Regiment at Murrumburrah in 1897. You will find cellar doors to visit, regional produce to taste, and places to stay.

Visit Cootamundra (30 minutes drive from Hollycott) to experience birdwatching trails, Pioneer Park 30-minute loop walking track with sensational views, blooms of native Cootamundra wattle (July/August), antique shopping, and cricket history.

The Arts Centre Cootamundra hosts exhibitions and performances, and the local Agricultural Show is held every October. Planted Cootamundra is a whole foods cafe that specialises in organic seasonal produce from the district, and for great coffee you cannot go past Dusty Road Coffee Roasters.

A bit further down the track (Hume Highway) is Gundagai if you are feeling adventurous.
