Hollycott Farm
Hollycott is a 500acre grazing property in the picturesque and highly fertile south west slopes of New South Wales. The farm is conveniently located just 13 kms from the Hume Highway, between Cootamundra, Harden, and the popular village of Jugiong. Situated along a creek that flows to the Murrumbidgee River, the hilly landscape, trees and rich pastures provide a perfect setting for grazing cattle.
Hollycott is home to a herd of 50 breeding cows and their calves (and 2 bulls), as part of a regenerative, natural, grass-fed beef programme, featuring the Speckle Park breed. These attractive black and white cattle boast a reputation for quiet temperament and enjoy being hand fed by visitors, who particularly enjoy seeing the new arrivals at calving time.
In addition to cattle breeding and growing, the farm has a small goat herd, horses, chickens, piglets (sometimes), and a number of soft and cuddly pets including cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs. Jules has been managing the farm for the past 5 years, with input from her 3 adult sons and 3 young daughters. The family enjoy hosting visitors, sharing with them the things they know and love about country living, and connecting people with nature and farm life. Jules has a holistic view of work and family life on the farm, with not just sustainability, but regeneration of the environment a high priority, where natural biodiversity and food production can work together in improving the land. As a result, there is also an abundance of native wildlife to enjoy at Hollycott, with regular sightings of kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, monitors, and countless birds.
Julie Roberts (Jules)
Previously an Allied Health Professional in Sydney, Jules diverged from that path over 20 years ago to establish a country life, which now includes her 500 acre working cattle farm. After several years of working in Case Management and operating various small businesses, (as well as raising and home schooling six children), she offers a high level of skill in planning, organising and communicating. If there’s a problem to be solved or logistics to arrange, Jules will be onto it!
Jules has recently completed training in holistic farm management, stress free stock handling, and farm landscape planning, and is passionate about looking after the natural landscape, soils, and her cows. She aims to produce high quality natural grass-fed beef, to sequester carbon into the soil through careful grazing management, and to maintain high welfare for stock at all times. Her small Speckle Park herd are like part of the family.
Embracing the opportunity to host guests at the farm is a natural extension of Jules’ passion for education, and connecting people to the sources of food and to the beauty of nature. She is always keen to share the farm and its experiences with others.
